Transport of Railcars: Secrets of Railcar Transportation

ZTE carried out a logistics project involving the transport of railcars with significant dimensions and weight. The process included comprehensive transport operations, starting from loading at the seaport and ending with unloading at the destination factory. The transported loads were characterized by impressive parameters: their length was nearly 25 meters, height reached 4 meters, and their weight exceeded 25 tons. Each transport covered a distance of up to 1,500 kilometers, crossing several European countries.

To complete this task, ZTE utilized specialized transport sets, including tiefbett trailers that were further extended with multiple sets of modular beams. This solution ensured the necessary length and strength of the trailer, which was critical for transporting such large loads. The total dimensions of the transport set measured 41.5 meters in length, 2.85 meters in width, and 4.4 meters in height. Such a configuration required precise planning and expertise in carrying out oversized transport operations.

Every stage of the railcar transport was meticulously planned, starting with the coordination of loading at the seaport, choosing the most optimal route, and organizing unloading at the final destination. The process also included obtaining the necessary permits for transit through various countries, which often required detailed arrangements with local administrative authorities. Additionally, the specifics of the transport route sometimes necessitated temporary traffic management changes, enabling the safe passage of such unusually large transport sets.

The transportation of railcars involved the use of advanced technological systems for securing the load. Specialized modular beams ensured stability and proper weight distribution, minimizing the risk of damage to the transported components. Moreover, the use of modern monitoring systems allowed real-time tracking of the transport’s position and control over transportation conditions, such as vibrations and trailer inclinations.

These logistically demanding operations were conducted with the highest safety standards. The team of operators and drivers managing the transport sets had extensive experience in handling oversized loads. Preparing for railcar transport began with a detailed route analysis, considering elements such as bridge load capacities, road widths, curve radii, and bridge heights. When the standard route proved impassable, alternative passages or temporary changes to road infrastructure were organized, such as removing road signs or temporarily lifting power lines.

Each railcar transport was also a significant organizational and logistical challenge, requiring collaboration with multiple entities. In addition to road and port operators, the process involved customs services, insurance companies, and transport engineering experts. All these efforts aimed to ensure the timeliness and safety of transport, which was critical for successfully completing projects on this scale.

Environmental aspects were also considered. Although oversized transport required specialized vehicles with substantial emissions, ZTE made efforts to minimize the carbon footprint of its operations. To this end, modern vehicles meeting the highest emission standards were used, and fuel consumption optimization technologies were implemented. Additionally, route planning was carried out in a way that minimized transport time and avoided unnecessary stops.

The transport of railcars by ZTE exemplified an innovative approach to oversized logistics. Each such project not only contributed to the development of transportation infrastructure but also demonstrated that with the right technology and organization, even the most challenging transport ventures could be realized.
